The industry-wide recognition provided by the Endeavour Award is greatly appreciated by Ai Group. Ai Group Head of Workforce Development, Megan Lilly, attributed the success of the program to its “…blending (of) the best of vocational and higher education while developing skills for emerging jobs.”
Because of its focus on future-proofing Australian industry and equipping young workers with the skills needed for Industry 4.0, the Higher Apprenticeship program successfully heralds in a new era of Australian training and workforce development. As elaborated upon by Lilly, “the program enables young people to develop valuable and enduring future-facing skills. The award recognises that the Industry 4.0 Higher Apprenticeship program is paving the way forward for both individuals and companies. It recognises that skills can be developed in new and fresh ways enabling individuals to effectively and meaningfully participate in our transforming economy.”
In this way, the Industry 4.0 Higher Apprentice Program addresses the need to prepare students for emerging jobs, with the award recognising the success of the program in combining the most valuable elements of an apprenticeship and a higher education degree. The three way partnership has also been integral to the success of this project.
Programs such as the Industry 4.0 Higher Apprenticeship are necessary for helping Australian businesses innovate, collaborate and redefine future parameters. Increasing industry capability is needed now in order to future-proof businesses, with Higher Apprenticeships providing the necessary calibre of talent to achieve these objectives. Some skills that apprentices develop through participating in the program include performing computations, utilising CAD and CAM technologies, producing and managing technical documentation, using SCADA systems, industrial networking and cloud computing, costing and many other valuable skills.
